Families come back for the temples and the shrines, not for the beaches. These are the routes we drive most, with the road time and the fixed price for the whole van.
The most venerated Catholic shrine in Sri Lanka, over 400 years old, honoured by Tamils and Sinhalese alike. The August feast draws around 500,000 pilgrims. It sits about 12 km off the A14, so we join it from the A9 route we already drive.
One of the five Pancha Ishwaram temples of Shiva, and one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams sung in the Tevaram. Near Mannar, so it pairs naturally with Madhu on the same trip.
Freshwater springs at the edge of the sea, long believed to heal, next to another of the five Pancha Ishwaram. The closest of the three to us: under an hour from Point Pedro.
